CSS container nesting bug in CUSTOMIZE menu

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

A mistake in your code makes your UI not understand the container height, and incorrectly vertically-shrink and truncate all the menus and input boxes and so on

Steps to Reproduce

Open CUSTOMIZE menu (e.g. to the Rules tab), put lots of rules in, on a big display - only 3 or so line show, wasting all the screen size

Expected Behavior

Should use the full display height, instead of blanking it all out

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Additional Information

You can tell this is a CSS error, because the input area’s resize control works fine for the height - but fails to auto-size on load properly. This is a classic CSS container-nesting mistake.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey @Chris_Drake,

What you’re seeing is how the rule editor works today rather than the page losing track of its height: when you edit a User rule on the Customize page, it opens in a text box that starts at a fixed size of about four lines. It can be made taller by dragging, but it doesn’t grow to fit the rule’s text or the window.

A few ways to get more room in the meantime:

  1. Drag the handle in the bottom right corner of the box down as far as you like (it resets the next time you open the editor).
  2. Split a long rule into several smaller User rules with + New, so each one stays short and readable.
  3. For long instructions tied to a project, use a project rule instead: it’s a file in your project’s .cursor/rules folder and opens in the full editor. See the rules docs.

A larger editor for long rules is a fair ask, and I’ve passed it along as feedback!
