Cursor 2.2.20: Inline Edit Issue

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

In the inline editor, Sonnet 4.5 appears as the only available model. When clicking on the model name to change it, the dropdown shows Auto Switch, which works correctly, along with Sonnet 4.5 and an Add Models option. Selecting Add Models opens the Cursor settings Models section, but other models are already enabled there and still do not appear as selectable options in the inline editor.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Press Ctrl + K in any file to use inline chat option(That’s what I do).
  2. Click on the displayed model name Sonnet 4.5.
  3. Observe the available options in the model selector.
  4. Click on Add Models.
  5. Check the Models section in Cursor settings and confirm that multiple models are already turned on.

Expected Behavior

All models that are enabled in the Cursor settings Models section should be visible and selectable in the inline editor model selector, not just Sonnet 4.5 and Auto Switch.

Model selection works properly in sidebar chat.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey there @ganeshjoshi

Cmd+K is designed for fast, non-reasoning models suitable for quick inline edits rather than deep reasoning tasks.

There are a couple of criteria used to determine whether a model is available or not when using Ctrl+K. One of those is that only non-thinking models are available. Another would be that models that require max mode aren’t available.

I suppose with the proliferation of thinking models, those options have narrowed over time. This is good feedback for us!

Was there a specific model you were trying to use with Cmd+K?

Thanks for the explanation @Colin.

I was trying to use Composer 1 since it is available in chat mode and enabled in settings, so I expected it to appear in the Cmd+K list as well.

I understand from your explanation that it might be treated as a heavier model, which explains why it is excluded. The difference in availability between chat mode and the inline editor can be a bit confusing though, since the settings show more models enabled than the ones that appear when invoking Cmd+K.
