Cursor Agent Not Calling Rules During Chat Sessions

Describe the Bug

Previously, I never encountered this issue, but now I’m finding that the Cursor agent never seems to use or check the rules during a chat session. Even if rules are set to ‘always’ be used, or if a rule is agent-requested and, in my opinion, should definitely be called for the purpose of the ongoing discussion, Cursor simply doesn’t call it. This is a recent change, as Cursor always used to call and apply rules as expected.

Steps to Reproduce

Create a Cursor rule and set its usage to ‘always’. For example, the rule might state: ‘Page titles must be in this format xyz’.
Engage in a chat session where, based on the discussion, this rule should logically be applied or referenced by the agent.
Observe that the Cursor agent does not display any clear snippet or communication indicating that it is referring to or applying the rule during the chat session. Previously, Cursor would show a clear snippet and state it was referring to the rule, but now there’s no indication, and it’s unclear if the rule is being followed without communication.

Expected Behavior

The agent visibly shows in chat that it is referring to the rule.
