Cursor Auto Mode: Excessive Token Usage

Auto mode is less viable than just writing code on paper with crayons

Thanks for your competent help. I was able to apply it in practice.

as this is about learning how to handle the new pricing models for me:

I just did a simple task with claude sonnet 4 and it showed ~$2.40. The same request would have cost me 10 cents (20 without discount) with the old pricing model.

Given that the plans provide double allowance ($200 plan → $400 allowance), the new plans are still somewhere 5x to 10x (with discount even 20x) more expensive in this simple example.

This is simply not bearable.

For major edits across a complex codebase, its not the best. But for many things you do its pretty good. It was way better yesterday, especially after i updated my powershell profile to work full auto.

I apologize if this is already resolved or something. I have not gone through all the threads.

I have the same issue. I see that it is consuming credits from the $20 limit, if i keep using auto, will i be charged after the $20 limit?

Initially there was no token consumption, then suddenly it started consuming quite a lot. Now, lately any question i ask, its few thousand tokens, even in new chats.

Is there something that im missing or i need to config something?

hi @ManHa thank you for the post. You are here in the right thread.

Please check following part where several optimizations are listed:

Additionally I wrote up a summary of token consumption.
