Cursor-cli tools not working

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor CLI

Describe the Bug

Since the latest update cursor cli has been unusable, it always fails at listing file and will fallback to try doing things with sed/rg/ed (doesn’t really work) or just give up and ask me to run commands for it. Cursor app works fine

“I tried to scan the repo but don’t have workspace access; I’ll outline the exact change to make and can apply it once you share the file(s) that handle {…}”

Steps to Reproduce

Just ask cursor-agent to do anything

Operating System

MacOS

Current Cursor Version (Menu → About Cursor → Copy)

$ cursor-agent --version
2025.08.27-24c29c1

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Yes - Cursor is unusable

Hey, thanks for the report here!

The team are still heavily invested in improving the CLI, and this is an issue we’ve seen a few times before. There should be some updates coming soon to help us improve on this, and we appreciate the report :folded_hands:

In the meantime, it looks like you’re on quite an old version of the CLI installed, can you try and run cursor-agent update to prompt an update?

I dont know what you mean, my version is from a few days ago and it’s up to date

$ cursor-agent update
Checking for updates…
Already up to date
$ cursor-agent --version
2025.08.27-24c29c1

I’m experiencing the same issue. Installed the CLI only yesterday so I presume I’m on the latest version. Renders the tool unusable.

Cursor CLI Version: 2025.08.27-24c29c1
ARM MacBook Air (M2)
MacOS: 15.6.1 (24G90)

I think this bug is also Cursor CLI Unable to Access Filesystem

Yes, it’s the same problem. In that forum thread we have found a workaround.
