Cursor composer history

How is it determined when my cursor composer history gets wiped?

Is there any way to recover it?

Hey, your history should not ever get wiped unless you:
a) Delete the history yourself, inside the editor
b) Downgrade Cursor to an older version
c) Interfeer with the database within Cursor that stores the history
d) An external program (like antivirus), has modified the files
e) You wipe your machine, or use Cursor on a new machine (history is stored locally, not on the cloud)

If your history is lost for any of the above reasons, it is most likely unrecoverable unfortunately.

My entire history was deleted, and I haven’t done any of the above things. Please help.
The only thing is that before closing Cursor for the last time, some type of notice popped up but the application was closed too fast for me to read it. When I reopened Cursor, my entire chat and composer history was gone. The rules for AI, the editors that I left open, the git state, my settings, and everything else is in place, so it doesn’t look like everything was wiped, it’s only the chat and composer history.

Hey, Cursor can also delete your chat/composer history if it gets corrupted, if it gets too long that it is causing performance issues, or if your harddrive has limited storage!

I’d recommend transferring information into files in your codebase, as Composer chat sessions are not intended to be permanent information storage, just like conversations in real life!

Hi, can I get help with restoring the history please? All the history is intact in my server’s files in a folder named ‘.cursor-server’. The project that the history was deleted for was opened on cursor via ssh remote connection.

Get this extension … it will save your history on the fly.

Hey, there is currently no way to restore lost or deleted Composer history unfortunately!

But it isn’t lost nor deleted in my case. Some sort of bug happened and unlinked it from my cursor session, all the files are still intact.

I just need help to link it back to the folder I’m working on.

Here are screenshots from the email I sent you guys and was told that someone from your team will get back to me to help (which never happened and I’ve been following up for multiple days).
