Cursor corrupting project?

I am loving Cursor - as a newbie developer it is helping me immensely,

But twice in the last couple of days my project has become corrupted with files suddenly becoming empty and I have no connection to github.

The only resolution has been to move my current files to a new folder, then recreate my project and checkout the latest commit from github to pick up where I left off.

As I say, I’m a newbie so maybe I shouldn’t be trying to do this on a MacBook Pro - but would be grateful to hear if others faced the same issue, or have any advice.

Hey, with every request to the Composer, it automatically creates checkpoints, so if something goes wrong, you can always revert to a previous version.

The checkpoints do not resolve this issue. At this point, the only reliable way to recover is to accept the loss of time and credits, fully wipe the project from the local machine, uninstall Cursor, install Claude Code, and then re-clone the repository from GitHub.

Doing so effectively resolves two problems:

  1. Moving away from a platform that provides little to no meaningful support in situations like this, and

  2. Eliminating the risk of encountering this issue again.
