When generating code in a new file, cursor is not able to create the file and it is stuck. I have to create the file and then trigger it again to work.

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Current Cursor Version (Menu β†’ About Cursor β†’ Copy)

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report.

There are a few known issues on Windows in 2.1.49-2.1.50 with the agent creating files. Please try:

  • Settings > Agents > turn off External-file Protection
  • Try a different model, pick a specific one, then restart the agent
  • Accept or reject all current diffs in the review, then continue
  • Switch mode Agent > Ask > Agent again
  • Try in a new chat or a different project

Similar threads and workarounds:

Could you share:

  • Request ID from the chat (chat menu > Copy Request ID)
  • Whether you use WSL
  • A screenshot of where the agent gets β€œstuck”
  • Whether External-file Protection is enabled and if you see confirmation buttons

Let us know if any of these steps help.

It’s resolved. Not sure which method worked for me but I think those are the ones:

  • Switch mode Agent > Ask > Agent again
Accept or reject all current diffs in the review, then continue
