I have updated the cursor, restarted multiple times, disabled and enabled the API keys multiple times as well
Hey, with your API key, only the Ask mode works. You need to disable your API key when using the Edit and Agent modes. Do you have a Pro subscription?
I started getting this error today as well and I am not using any API keys.
Before I get this error I get a separate error stating:
Your request has been blocked as our system has detected suspicious activity from your account/ip address. If you believe this is a mistake, please contact us at [email protected] can sign in with google, github or oauth to avoid the suspicious activity checks.
To fix this I have to log out and log back in using github each time I open cursor now.
Then I get the API error.
I am on the free trial plan.
I’m getting the same error. I got a message saying my Pro preview has ended and then

There are no API keys entered under Cursor Settings / Models. Do I disable API keys completely somewhere else?
Edit: Paid for Pro and it works.
faced the same problem. changed the type of the char from Agent to Ask. it works perfectly !
Bought Pro six hours ago before I’d ever seen this error. Started getting this error about an hour ago. Yes I tried restarting cursor. No it didn’t help.
Changed from Agent to Ask and all I get is “Connection failed. If the problem persists, please check your internet connection or VPN”. As mentioned above, I have Pro.
My internet connection is flawless and I’m not using a VPN.
