Cursor UI STILL very laggy since 0.49

Describe the Bug

Since updating to version 0.49 - 1.2.2, Cursor’s UI has become very laggy. When I switch between two Cursor windows, the one I switch to shows a light green loading bar for about a second and then freezes for 1–3 seconds before it becomes usable again. It also freezes occasionally while I’m typing a query. The UI lags very OFTEN. None of this happened in version 0.48.9.

In short, switching between two open Cursor windows causes a 1–3 second freeze, which didn’t happen in the previous version.

  1. It’s not my extensions. I don’t have any custom extensions installed.

  2. I opened process explorer and monitored. Nothing out of ordinary. No high CPU or RAM usage.

  3. I deleted “state.vscdb” and had cursor re-create it. It was good for a little bit but after 1 - 2 days it started lagging again.

If I install 0.48.9 again, Cursor works perfect with ZERO UI lags. But I can’t stay in that version forever.

Steps to Reproduce

Open two or three cursor windows. Run some queries on each window. Switch between each cursor window. Notice UI lag.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Sometimes - I can sometimes use Cursor

Hey, try this:

Okay, I’ve done just that. Uninstalled cursor, removed all those folders/files. Re-installed. It worked fine for maybe 5 - 10 minutes. But now the UI lag is back. It freezes for 3 - 5 seconds. Works fine for maybe 30 seconds - a minute. once again lags for 3 - 5 seconds.

I suggest doing that again and downloading v.1.2, v1.2.2 seems to have some quirks

I believe I’ve found the issue. Cursor is not lagging, Cursor is FREEZING MY ENTIRE PC. It keeps writing to state.vscdb. Then it creates, writes, and deletes state.vscdb-journal.

My Disk C:\ is constantly at 100% when Cursor is open.

What the heck is it even writing? How do I turn this off?

Now it’s absolutely not usable. It’s lagging every few seconds. Even more so than before.

I have the similar experience on Ubuntu 22.04.

I started having problems with version 1.2.2 a few days ago. Every few seconds during different UI interactions Cursor freezes on 2-3 sec.

Now I use 0.49.6 and it works quick like pure VS Code.

Any solution to this? I’m having the same issue on multiple computers…

Please try Cursor Settings > Beta > Update Access: Early Access

This fixed it for me. No lags so far on the latest early access version (1.44).
