Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, this is a known issue with the Windows auto-updater on our side. If something interrupts the process between removing the old version and installing the new one (for example, the system shuts down), Cursor can disappear completely. There was a partial fix in earlier versions, but it didn’t cover all cases. We’re tracking the issue, but there’s no specific ETA for a fix yet.

Temporary workaround is to turn off auto-update:

  • File > Preferences > Settings, find update.mode, set it to none
  • Then update manually by downloading the installer from the website

To help narrow down the cause, a couple of questions:

  • Does this happen right after an update, or sometimes after a normal reboot with no update?
  • Do you launch Cursor directly on Windows, or via WSL using cursor . in a WSL terminal?
