What does the “default” option in the model selection menu mean? It suddenly appeared in the new version of Cursor, and its purpose is unclear.
I like Cursor for its frequent incremental updates. However, they need to provide more details about each update. Such as the new “default” model.
I think the updated the prompt on cursor too , its always missing out issues it no longer thinks too even tho i’m using thinking model , feels like they forced 3.7 to reply and solve 1 and only 1 task nothing more
Did they trick everyone into using 3.5 without knowing?
Which is strange as the price is exactly the same but a poorer experience. I would love to hear the reason for this change.
Yeah, “default” isn’t going to fly. Those of us that have worked with these models long enough know they all have their own personality and need to be prompted slightly differently for best results. If I don’t know what model I’m calling it’s not going to work.
100%, “default” doesn’t tell enough to the typical Cursor user.
We need to come back to the previus functionallity of Ctrl+L shoutcut to create a new CHAT (not agent!) and wtf with this new “default” mode, who even need that?
We want them to let us configure the default settings, whether it’s for chat, agents, or models.
you can just change the model. once you do, it stays on that model even after closing Cursor
Eu percebi que o padrão não me manda para filas longas isso é bom kkkkk
This just makes it vague and annoying
I find cursor 3.7 to be surprisingly worse than 3.5, which I wouldn’t have expected. It tends to write out whole files slowly, instead of just the bits that need fixing. I imagine it’s a constant dance as models improve, but system prompts need changing to coax the right behavior out of them depending on the circumstances. So I appreciate having a ‘default’ option based on what the cursor team are finding most optimal at the moment for most people. Maybe in a week thet will have figured out how to prompt 3.7 to behave itself, but right now I’m glad it’s not default.
What a mystery, will Cursor never reply to this? But actually it seems it’s no longer a mystery. In the current beta of 0.47 it’s suggested (with even a screenshot in the docs) they renamed it to Auto-select model. Though whenever it’s Claude Sonnet 3.7 thinking, it means “default” was “improved” (their words) to cost 2 requests instead of 1!
@haojixing, please consider marking my reply as Solved.
Your speculation makes a lot of sense, and I’ve noticed it too. I suspect that this “default” is actually the 0.47 model-auto-select feature.
yes its the new ‘Auto’ feature for model selection, however the usage logs do not specify which model was used. @danperks can this be improved?
