everytime I open Cursor IDE, the deleted past chats will come back again. But at least the content inside had been deleted. This is a new bug after I updated my cursor today.
Hey, thanks for the report. I can see the screenshot with empty entries in the chat history.
This is a known issue. 3.0.9 included a fix for zombie draft chats, but it doesn’t cover every case. Other users also confirmed that the issue still happens on 3.0.9. The team is aware, and your report helps us prioritize it.
One question: the chats that come back, were they draft chats unfinished or not sent, or normal completed chats with history?
Let me know if there’s anything else you can add.
After 3.0 update I am no longer able to completely delete agents that are no longer used from the Agents Panel.
After deleting an Agent, it will reappear after I send a prompt to another agent and that agent starts working.
Subsequent deletion does not solve the issue.
Issue persists after complete Cursor Reinstall (full nuke of Cursor folders on macOS)
Steps to Reproduce
Delete Agent - Agent disappears.
Prompt another agent, wait for it to start working, deleted agent reappears
Expected Behavior
Delete Agent - Agent disappears - does not reappear again.
@deanrie Hi and thank you for your quick response.
re. your question: “Were the agents that came back unfinished drafts where the prompt was never sent, or fully completed agents with history? This will help us understand the scope of the bug.”
they came back in both cases - unfinished prompts and completed agents with history
Agent sessions don’t stay deleted after deleting from the agent sidebar or agent window. They will delete but then always reappear after a few seconds
Steps to Reproduce
Delete an agent session in the agents sidebar
Expected Behavior
I would expect the agent session to be deleted forever.
This is a known issue. Version 3.0.9 included a fix for zombie draft chats, but it only covers draft (unsent) chats. Completed agent sessions and chats with history still have the resurrection problem. Multiple users confirmed this on 3.0.9 and 3.0.12: Deleted past chats will appear again after the new recent update.
The team is aware and working on a more complete fix. Thanks for reporting it.
Dear Development team @mohitjain@deanrie
I do not mean to rush you, but the issue still persists in 3.0.13
I am now at almost 50 chats that are awaiting deletion. Dreading the day when I will have to click each one to purge the lot.
Maybe there’s a temporary workaround that you know of like deleting specific cache files?
When attempting to delete agents that have been previously used, the deletion process appears to succeed, but the agents reappear in the interface after a refresh or restart of the IDE. This prevents users from permanently removing unused or unwanted agents.
Steps to Reproduce
Open Cursor IDE.
Navigate to the agents panel or list.
Select a previously used agent.
Click the delete option.
Confirm deletion.
Refresh the IDE or restart it.
Observe that the deleted agent reappears in the list.
Expected Behavior
After deleting an agent, it should be permanently removed from the list and not reappear after a refresh or restart of the IDE.
Hey everyone, quick update on this bug. The full fix for deleting chats, covering both draft and completed sessions, is done. It should ship in the next update.
Once you get the update, please check if the issue is still happening. If the zombie chats still come back after updating, reply here with your version number.
@deanrie Thank you for the update and the attempts to address the issue. However…
Cursor 3.0.16 Issue persists.
Tested right after updating: Zombie chats still reappear.
Tested after complete nuke and reinstall: Zombie chats still reappear.
Tested by deleting from “main” agent panel section and by deleting from “Archived” - issue persists, Zombies be coming back.
Tested with creating and deleting draft only chat. The draft stays deleted.
When I delete certain conversation history, refresh/restart, and the conversation history will be restored, even if it is only the title, the actual historical content may have been deleted
Steps to Reproduce
Click on the three dot icons on the right side of the conversation history record
Click the delete button
Wait for a while or restart IDE or Developer: Reload Window
