Describe the request
There is no “disable terminal / console / command access” setting available.
The closest, “Auto-Run Mode”, provides only “Ask Every Time”, “Use Allowlist”, and “Run Everything”.
How about “Disable terminal access”?
All methods being a version of “Yes” is a dark pattern.
This is similar to Microsoft’s toxic “Do you want to xxxx? Yes - Ask Again Later”.
No, don’t ask me again later - do not ever do the thing I don’t want done.
Even “Use Allowlist” is a dark pattern, because this is an auto-run setting, not a “can they even try” setting.
Ok, set “Use Allowlist” and add NOTHING to it. And still get badgered every time, because “Use Allowlist” is not “Disable all attempts to use the terminal”.
Users expect and deserve an explicit “No, do not ever do this.”
“Add it to rules.md/cursor.md” Ok, so agents can just ignore that like they ignore most of the rules and guidance from those files? That’s not a solution that’s a bandaid, it’s not only ineffective but in the wrong place entirely.
Why is “Disabled” or “Automatically reject” not an option?
Prior “solved” answers were “use a custom mode and disable terminal there”.
Well, surprise surprise, custom mode no longer exists, so… what now?
Just be annoyed constantly?
