Disable OPT+Arrow browser navigation in embedded Browser tool

Feature request for product/service

Cursor IDE

Describe the request

Problem

When using the Cursor Browser tool (the embedded browser panel), pressing OPT+Left Arrow and OPT+Right Arrow triggers browser history navigation (back/forward) instead of the standard macOS behavior of moving the cursor by word.

This makes it very difficult to edit text in form inputs, textareas, and rich text editors within the embedded browser. Every time I try to navigate by word while typing, I accidentally navigate away from the page and lose my work.

Expected Behavior

  • When focus is in a text input field, OPT+Arrow should move the cursor by word (standard macOS text editing)
  • Browser navigation should only happen when focus is NOT in a text field, or use different shortcuts

Current Workaround

Opening the app in an external browser instead of using the Cursor Browser tool.

Environment

  • macOS
  • Cursor Browser tool (built-in browser panel)

Suggested Solutions

  1. Disable OPT+Arrow for browser navigation entirely in the embedded browser
  2. Or: Only trigger browser navigation when focus is outside text inputs
  3. Or: Allow users to configure/disable these shortcuts in Keyboard Shortcuts settings

Operating System (if it applies)

MacOS

100% this back/forward shortcut makes the browser practically unusable

seconded – extremely annoying since I use opt+ everywhere else when typing on my computer, and here it leads to wasted time, lost progress/local state, etc.

Yep - This key combination is embedded in decades of muscle memory. Very hard to undo.
