Editor freezes temporarily, recovers after a few seconds

Describe the Bug

As the title states, the IDE freezes up at least a couple of times per minute. This seems to be happening once the agent gets used, and while doing almost anything (typing, scrolling, etc.). It continues to happen even with the agent window closed. Sometimes the freeze-up is so bad, the application stops responding entirely, and a force-quit is required. We’ve already tried disabling hardware acceleration. A reinstall works temporarily, but once the agent gets used, the freezing starts again. The size of the prompts and project doesn’t change the behavior. This has happened to us on Windows, and is now happening on Linux too.

This is affecting me and 50% of my team. Cursor has become unusable, and we might be forced into using other options if this cannot be resolved soon.

Hardware specs:
CPU: 11th Gen Intel i7-1185G7 (8) @ 4.800GHz
GPU: Intel TigerLake-LP GT2 [Iris Xe Graphics]
RAM: 32GB
OS: Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS x86_64

The behavior is very similar (if not identical) to these posts:

There are more, but for some reason I’m limited to 2 links per post.

Steps to Reproduce

Install Cursor → Have the agent write some code → Freezing starts.

So starting a fresh chat causes this to happen immediately?

It’s difficult yo say whether it starts immediately, but it does happen after the agent was used for the first time. I also tested this by opening a separate smaller project, played around a bit to see if the freezing persists (which it didn’t), and then asked the agent to change some code. After that, the random freeze-ups started again.

same happening to me

This should be resolved in v1.4.5 which was released today.

Been happening for months! I noticed closing out cursor and starting a new chat helps buy more time.
