Editor window becomes unusable

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I am experiencing strange behaviour in the editor. When first opening the cursor IDE on my mac, everything works fine (i can select a file, edit it normally, etc).

At some point though, the editor window becomes unusable. For example:

  • down button does not move down.
  • up button goes back (like left arrow) and does not go up to previous line
  • double click a word to highlight and the delete does not delete the word
  • on an empty line, delete does not delete the line
  • command-S keyboard shortcut does not save the file - need to navigate to File menu and use Save option.

Also, in a terminal window, i am no longer able to select words and copy/paste using shortcuts. The copy/past options in the Edit menu however work

The resolution (temporary) is to Exit Cursor and start again.

Steps to Reproduce

I have a strange suspicion this occurred when i enabled cursor in the terminal recently

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Sometimes - I can sometimes use Cursor

Hey, thanks for the report. The browserViewFocused flag gets stuck after interacting with the AI chat, and it blocks all keyboard input in the editor.

Workarounds:

  1. Press Escape or Cmd+1. This should return focus to the editor
  2. If that doesn’t help: Cmd+Shift+P > Developer: Reload Window

Your guess about the terminal is probably not related. This usually gets triggered after using AI Chat.

Can you help confirm? Next time you hit the bug:

  1. Open the console: Cmd+Shift+P > Developer: Toggle Developer Tools
  2. Look for a line like: + Skipping keybinding dispatch because browserViewFocused is true
  3. If you see it, please send a screenshot

The team is aware and the bug is logged. Related threads:

Let me know if the workaround doesn’t work or if you find anything else.

Reloading the window works as a workaround - thanks for your help. I’ll keep an eye out for the message and if I see it, I will respond with a shortcut
