Keyboard behaving erratically

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

PROBLEM: The keyboard either stops working or behaves erratically (now I can type letters but not use the cursor for example).
VERSION: The problem started with my current version (second-last). I updated now to the very last (v2.4.27), restarted, but the problem persists.
AREAS AFFECTED: Editor and IDE textboxes (GIT commit, etc,). CLI and AI chat seem unaffected and I can type normally.
My OS is Windows11.

Steps to Reproduce

  • not sure about the steps. I have the impression that this happens sometimes after using the AI Chat

Expected Behavior

I’d love the keyboard to work normally

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Version Information

Cursor v2.4.27

For AI issues: which model did you use?

Auto - agent mode

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Yes - Cursor is unusable

Hey, thanks for the report. This is a known focus management issue. The browserViewFocused flag gets stuck on true after interacting with the AI chat or composer, which blocks keyboard input in the editor.

Your guess is right. The bug often gets triggered after using AI Chat.

Workarounds:

  1. Press Escape or Ctrl+1. This should bring focus back to the editor.
  2. If that doesn’t help: Ctrl+Shift+P > Developer: Reload Window

Can you help confirm the root cause?
Next time it happens, open the console (Ctrl+Shift+P > Developer: Toggle Developer Tools) and look for a line like:

+ Skipping keybinding dispatch because browserViewFocused is true

If you see it, please take a screenshot and share it here.
