Both Ask and Agent modes. Usually happens in the existing chat with several prior unaccepted edits. Also happened when i opened another chat, then went back to the old one and Asked for more edits. The old chat “lost connection” when I went back into it, saying that my laptop lost internet (it did not). Reopening Cursor or the file does not help. In the new chat it always worked, that’s probably what you have QA’d.
Some significant % of my Agent queries are not editing properly, but they are completing and are charged. I do “thumbs down” and provide feedback. Ideally, these negative results would be not be charged (or reimbursed).
I’m constantly getting Error calling tool ‘edit_file’. New chat, restart Cursor. restart Windows, makes no difference. After using approx 20 requests out of 60. It’s not worth the money it I am constantly battling to try and make it make a few edits.
I’ve added “The code edit / apply tool only supports small-to-medium diffs, so proceed step-by-step.” to my global Cursor rules, which helps but the issue of apply model failing still is occurring somewhat frequently.
Hi, please open your console (in the command palette, Developer: Toggle Developer Tools) and send us screenshots of any errors you see here!
And you can provide information about your device by clicking Help—About to make it easier for officials to find the problem.
Please share some request IDs so we can check on these queries. If you’re in privacy mode, would be great if you can temporarily disable, perform a query, and send us the request id
I just updated the latest cursor 10 minutes ago. now I am getting this a lot.
I am on privacy mode. so can’t help with providing any requestid’s sorry. surely the Cursor devs are getting this error too. either that or they aren’t really doing any coding or the QA tester is not the best.
I think its when the sonnet server refuses to answer due to it sees something it doesn’t want to answer about. especially when writing malicious code.
the more this is happening is probably the more malicious code being written with cursor.
I think cursor needs to recognise this type of response from Sonnet, and pass the message properly onto the user.
Team Cursor @truell20 , @ericzakariasson et al. - ARE YOU READING THIS?
Many of your customers are encountering an error when calling the tool ‘edit file.’ This issue is costing them credits, and you have not responded or acknowledged this ongoing problem. Your new usage-based pricing has generally increased costs for the average user, yet you are not reimbursing customers for repeated updates that contain serious bugs. It feels as though you are using your customers as testers while leaving them to bear the costs of these issues.
You should switch. I am switching because Cursor needs real leaders. I can’t believe the valuation given the kindergarten-level customer support they provide. They responded to one of my emails six weeks after I sent it regarding bugs and a dual subscription or 2x 500 credits after changing the usage-based system. They are far from running a professional company. Given the current size of the user base, the absurd number of bug-filled releases forces users to waste credits and provide feedback just so they can identify and fix issues. Meanwhile, they don’t acknowledge their mistakes and simply give users the silent treatment, like a Gen Alpha tender date after realizing you are just a prop in her OnlyFans channel.
