ERROR: The model XXX does not work with your current plan or api key

10 minutes ago, the error “The model XXX does not work with your current plan or api key” suddenly started to display when I send a message in the chat window.

Now, I can not chat with AI in chat window of Cursor app. It is very annoying…

I tried to switch the model from gpt-4 to other models. However, the error still raises.

I checked my account setting and it does not reach the limit.

Usage
gpt-4
You've used 30 requests out of your 1000 monthly fast requests quota.
You may use unlimited slow requests. These may run slower at times of peak demand.
gpt-3.5-turbo
You've used 8 fast requests of this model. You have no monthly quota.

How can I fix this?

OpenAI seems to be having issues. We’re communicating with them, and they are looking for a fix.

Hello, I got a similar problem with Openrouter API ‘anthropic/claude-3.7-sonnet’ using Cursor 0.46.7 today (28 February 2025)

okay but solution seems to simply be to fallback to another model, shouldn’t that happen by default?

same (0.47.5, 2025-03-21)

And I have the same error “The model does not work with your current plan or api key” despite having active Anthropic and OpenAI keys installed, and should have slow models available via Cursor subscription. Nothing works, overloading and various combinations of settings don’t help.

Hey, if you are getting this error, try disabling your API key if you want to use models from your subscription.

I have already changed API keys several times, disabled them, changed all possible settings, restarted Cursor, cleared the cache - the error always repeats.
I can’t use either subscription models or my API keys

Could the issue be with incorrect model names? Could you share the names or a screenshot?

I think @deanrie is right here, looks like our logs show an invalid model name being used, could you share the names of the models you’re using?

Here’s the models we generally support when not using a user provided API key: Cursor – Models

Yes, same here. saw this when I changed to Quasar-Alpha.
It is not the question of a bug, but also the impression I get about my account.
It got me thinking that something is wrong with my payment or something else, cause Quasar-Alpha is the cheapest model out there.

But ■■■■ happens.
Apps I have made are not free from bugs neither, so I understand that … happens.
