Failed to load GitHub settings after reconnecting every account

@deanrie @Colin

I am done jumping through hoops. It took more than an hour just to get far enough to post this feedback.

Cursor Integrations still says “Failed to load GitHub settings”. I just re-integrated my GitHub accounts again, and it is still in vain.

What I reconnected, each time with the Cursor GitHub App set to All repositories: two personal GitHub accounts and one organization.

GitHub accepted the installs. Refreshing Cursor Integrations still shows Failed to load GitHub settings and a Connect button. Uninstalling, reinstalling, and connecting again does nothing.

This Cursor account had also been linked to another GitHub account before these. Adding more than one GitHub account is a brittle operation. The failure mode is a dead Integrations page.

The failing request is POST /api/dashboard/get-github-installations.

Same stuck state as:

On the second thread, Connect worked only after a Cursor employee deleted the stale installation record. Please clear the stale GitHub identities on this account. I will reconnect once after that, and not before.

[Updated] Same issue here.

I am providing details.

Describe the Bug
I’m trying to connect GitHub to our Cursor Teams organization for Cloud Agents/Bugbot.

Initially my personal GitHub account was connected. I then installed the Cursor GitHub App on my organization with the requested permissions. Cursor continued showing the personal account, so I revoked Cursor’s authorization from my personal GitHub account.

After that, Cursor, under Cursor Dashboard →Integrations → GitHub, changed to “Failed to load GitHub settings”. The Connect button is still shown. The organization-level Cursor GitHub App installation is still present.

Could you please check whether there is a stale GitHub installation/connection record associated with my Cursor account/team and clear it if necessary?

The GitHub organization installation should be the one we want to use for the team-level integration.

Update:

I inspected the request in Chrome DevTools.

Clicking “Connect” triggers:

POST https://cursor.com/api/dashboard/get-github-installations

which consistently returns:

HTTP 401 Unauthorized

It needs to be checked whether there is a stale GitHub installation/identity record associated with my Cursor account, and whether it needs to be cleared server-side?

Steps to Reproduce

For the affected users

  1. Go Cursor Dashboard → Integrations
  2. Go to GitHub
  3. ‘Connect’ button is enabled
  4. An error message appears: “Failed to load GitHub settings”

Expected Behavior
Cursor should be successfully connected to GitHub and a ‘Manage’ button should appear instead of ‘Connect’ button and the error: “Failed to load GitHub settings”.

Hey, thanks for the detailed report, and sorry for sending you around.

We found the cause. One of the old GitHub connections on your account still has an authorization that GitHub no longer accepts. The Integrations page was crashing on that connection instead of skipping it, and each reconnect only refreshed the GitHub account you were logged into at that moment, so the outdated entry never got cleared.

This is a known issue and we’re already tracking it. I’ve asked the team to manually remove the outdated GitHub connections from your account. I’ll reply here as soon as that’s done. After that, you should only need to reconnect GitHub once, just like you planned.

@kdimitros-bespot, you have the same symptom too, a 401 on get-github-installations after the authorization was revoked for your personal account. This is the same issue, and I’ll ask for the outdated entry on your account to be cleared too. Please confirm the email linked to your Cursor account so we can find the right entry. You can send it in a DM if you don’t want to post it here.
