Describe the request
Hi Cursor Team,
I’d like to request a feature that would significantly improve the chat experience with the AI agent: the ability to quote selected text from the chat, similar to how WhatsApp and Telegram work.
Use Case:
I often ask the agent to outline the steps it plans to take before executing a task. This helps me verify that it understood the requirements and will implement what I need. When corrections are needed, I frequently need to reference specific parts from previous messages—both from the agent and from my own messages. Currently, I have to manually copy and paste text, which is inefficient and error-prone.
Proposed Solution:
Add a quote/reply feature that allows users to:
- Select any text from the chat (from both agent and user messages)
- Quote the selected text with a single action
- Preserve Markdown formatting in quoted text
- Insert the quote into the input field for easy reference
This would work similarly to the quote functionality in WhatsApp and Telegram, where you can select text and quickly quote it in your reply.
Benefits:
- Faster and more precise communication
- Better context preservation during iterative refinement
- Smoother collaborative workflow with the agent
- Reduced copy-paste errors
- Improved ability to reference specific parts of previous conversations
I believe this feature would be valuable for all Cursor users, not just those working on complex tasks. It’s a standard feature in modern messaging applications, and having it in Cursor would make the interaction with the AI agent much more intuitive and efficient.
