Feature Request - Grok Bot: Disable phone notifications when using desktop

Describe the request

Hi, a QoL improvement would be that if I’m working with the bots on desktop, and seeing replies, that my phones don’t keep going off during those sessions!

Thanks

Hey @mwjt42, thanks for the suggestion!

Some of this is already in place: while the Grok Bot desktop window is in front and focused, replies from any of your Bots should not ping your phone. Where it still falls through today is when the desktop app is open but not the focused window (for example on a second monitor while you work in another app), or when you switch away in the few seconds after a reply lands.

Smarter cross-device quieting, closer to how Slack handles it, is something the team is actively looking at. No timeline to share yet.

Could you tell us which case you are hitting: is the Grok Bot window focused when the phone buzzes, or is it in the background? And is it every Bot, or just some?

Thanks for the quick response.

It’s doesn’t seem to be working at all on my set up.

With the Desktop window focused (Windows), both my Android phones ping, on all bots. Because I have it on 2 phones it’s doubly annoying!

Thanks for the extra detail, that helps.

Looking at how the app behaved on your side yesterday, the phone alerts line up with moments where the Grok Bot window was open but not the active window on Windows (for example on a second monitor while you were working in another app, or just after switching away). In those moments the desktop app also shows a Windows toast, so if you see the toast and the phone buzz together, that is the same decision. While Grok Bot is the window you are actively working in, the phone alerts should stay quiet, and that is what we see for your account.

Does that match what you are seeing? If the phone buzzes while you are actively typing in Grok Bot, tell us the rough time (UK) and which Bot, and we will dig in.

Smarter quieting when the app is open but not in front is something the team is looking at. No timeline to share yet.

Adding a suggestion while the automatic cross-device clearing is being worked on:

It would be very useful to have a manual button on Windows (something like “Mark as read on all devices” or “Sync read status”) that pushes the read state to Android and clears the corresponding notifications on the phone.

Right now, reading on desktop doesn’t reliably remove the notifications on mobile, and a simple manual sync would make the current limitation much more manageable until the automatic behavior is solid.

Thanks!

Describe the request

While working on my desktop, I still receive mobile notifications for Grok bot messages I’m actively viewing. It shouldn’t send mobile alerts if I’m already looking at them, similar to Slack’s notification experience.
