Freezes on “Asking Questions” During Long Runs

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Sometimes when I use Opus 5 High as the main model to run my custom Orchestrator Skill, after a long-running session the main model will use the question-asking tool, but it occasionally gets stuck on “Asking questions” for a long time. The loading indicator in the sidebar also disappears, and it looks like the session has frozen. I have not encountered this issue when using Fable 5, Grok 4.5, or Kimi K3 as the main model.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Set Opus 5 High as the main model.
  2. Run a custom Orchestrator Skill.
  3. Let the session run for an extended period (long-running / multi-step execution).
  4. Wait until the main model invokes the question-asking tool.
  5. Observe that the UI stays on “Asking questions” for a long time.
  6. Check the sidebar: the loading indicator disappears, and the session appears frozen.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey there! When the agent hits “Asking questions,” the turn pauses for your answer - that’s why the sidebar spinner stops. Answer or Skip to resume.

If there’s no card / it stays stuck: Cmd+Shift+P → Developer: Reload Window, or start a new chat. Related: soft-lock after a long-idle Asking Question. Our team is looking into it - I’ll post when there’s an update.
