Gemini 2.5 "thinking" cannot be turned off due to interface change. (0.48.7)

The issue is that in the newest 0.48.7 Cursor, that Gemini 2.5’s thinking mode CANNOT be turned off.

Gemini 2.5 is a great model, but the thinking setting seriously over complicates thing.

:prohibited: Tell us if the issue stops you from using Cursor.
This is highly disruptive as Gemini 2.5 is the most capable model but ONLY if it’s thinking mode is DISABLED. The thinking model clearly leads it astray at present.

:lady_beetle: Provide a clear description of the bug
:counterclockwise_arrows_button: Explain how to reproduce the bug (if known)
To reproduce:

  1. Select the Agent window.
  2. Pick the model.
  3. Uncheck Thinking (Auto gets automatically selected, which is also annoying)
  4. Select Gemini 2.5 Pro (either one)
  5. When you’ve selected it the “brain” icon is there and when you check the model selection tool, “thinking” has been turned on. This was not the case in my previous version (unsure which one due to automatic updating.)

:white_check_mark: Check the forum to ensure the issue hasn’t been reported already

  • There are no bug reports about this I could find.

:camera: Attach screenshots or recordings (e.g., .jpg, .png, .mp4).

:laptop: Tell us your operating system and your Cursor version.

Hey, Gemini 2.5 exp is a thinking model, so it only supports one mode.

I understand; for whatever reason however, the thinking was disabled for several days and the model performed both faster and better without its internal dialog.

The only difference is that the thinking is now visible! It used to think, you just couldn’t see it

It thinks therefor it was?
