Github Agents suddenly stopped working

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Background Agent (GitHub, Slack, Web, Linear)

Describe the Bug

Using @cursor in Github has been fine for the last 2 weeks without any issues at all. Suddenly yesterday I started getting long wait times and an eventual message that says “Unable to add follow-up after multiple attempts. The agent may be experiencing issues. Please try again or Open in Web to view the status.”

Steps to Reproduce

Go to github and use the @cursor command to prompt the bot to work on something

Expected Behavior

Should fix said issue and respond with what it did

Screenshots / Screen Recordings

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Version Information

The IDE or CLI does not matter because it is a background agent

For AI issues: which model did you use?

No setting for this (I wish there was) so it seems to default to the latest claude

For AI issues: add Request ID with privacy disabled

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Somehow this started working. I got a new message that I needed to change my usage or enable on-demand billing. So I went ahead and did that and now it works fine. So maybe that’s all it was? That must be a new requirement for the agents. Anyway, consider this resolved now.
