Given that the new version of the IDE has removed Max mode, why has the Max icon suddenly appeared in the usage history in the background? Could this have a potential impact on future usage costs?

Hey, thanks for the question. Short answer, it doesn’t affect the cost.

We removed Max Mode from the picker for usage-based plans on purpose (announcement from July 20). Context window size and effort are now chosen directly in the model picker. Also, the 20% Max upcharge for usage-based plans was removed a few months ago, so there isn’t a separate “more expensive” mode anymore.

The MAX label you see in usage history is just a leftover flag on the event, not a separate (more expensive) processing mode. Your requests before and after the update resolve to the same model variant at the same price. In your screenshot, the Cursor Grok 4.5 events show as Included (US$0.50 / US$0.43). This badge won’t affect future charges.

The extra MAX label in history is just cosmetic, and we’re aware of it. Let us know if you notice a real cost mismatch, not just a display issue.
