Since my ChatGPT and platform API accounts were shut down two weeks ago without any explanation—and my balance hasn’t been refunded—I’ve decided I’ll no longer be an OpenAI subscriber, as my account has been active since GPT-3.5 was first available.

I installed Codex extension on Cursor, even enabled OpenAI API key, still can see GPT5 Codex model in the options list, what am I doing wrong?

Cannot be used like a regular model… you have to open a chat specifically for it

Got it, thank you very much. I find it strangely place there, as it’s covering the project files. Is there a way to move the chatbox to the right? I see that there’s a way for VS, but can’t find a way for Cursor.

And it couldn’t be that you manually added gpt-5-codex as a model, right? Because if I do that, I get the same view as yours (only that it doesn’t work when I try to run it with that custom model)

GPT-5-codex is trash compared to Cursor + Sonnet 4 no thinking but I suggest you try it yourself. Don’t expect miracles.

Codex CLI is trash on Windows, as it can only perform powershell commands for some reason, and every command needs to be approved until you turn approvals off entirely. However, it’s pretty good otherwise. Although, I’m waiting for them to fix it before I consider jumping ship.

Also Cursor + Sonnet 4 is bad compared to Claude code using Sonnet 4. Something about the companies being able to optimise their own LLMs with these CLI tools makes them superior. Highly recommend Claude Code over Cursor + Sonnet. Will save you money too.

Codex CLI does not need constant approvals like the extension, alltogether better now. Still too many out-of-sandbox approvals. I run it yolo, which is actually dangerous - git resets + branch deletions have been sighted
