Since GPT-5 Codex is not supported by Cursor, I suggest Cursor offer a discount to Claude.
It’s supported.
I can’t find it—can you add it, please?
It seems that OpenAI hasn’t made GPT‑5-Codex available in the API yet.
It appears they are exclusively for Codex use and not provided to third parties.
Sure, go to Cursor, and hit CMD or CNTRL shift J
General > Account - import VS code
It will import the extensions
That’s how I had to workaround (I saw the openai page said CURSOR so I figured shortcut
What are you talking about?
We’re talking about using gpt-5-codex-high, similar to gpt-5-high, within the Cursor agent.
So you didn’t click the VSX link above your comment? Links directly to Codex… You didn’t read me say the page mentions cursor specifically?
Oh, and you give it it’s own chat area, not through the normal model select interface.. it has it’s own chat, and it says right on the page, you can use it as a plus user, might not care about API use ….
So this doesn’t work as well (or at all really) as giving it it’s own side panel. So do not need API keys, just plus.
With the extension, GPT5-Codex is really performing in Cursor. Finally one can code again with much extended limits.
I’m not talking about using the Codex extension—this requires a ChatGPT subscription. What I want is to use the GPT-5-Codex model within my Cursor subscription.
And that would be why My last response. You can clearly see the model is in my model list, and right above that it says for developers using API key we plan to make it available soon. Soon right now your only option to use codex is the extension. Which is why I just said that a few times. Right now the model will crash if you load it like I have in my picture loaded.
Again to get that model in your model list…
You have to install the extension….
Thank you very much, although this is definitely not what I wanted—subscribing to Cursor is the way to go.
How does one AI providers decision to not yet expose a model via API would logically lead to price reduction at another provider.
Good question—like how win-surf can’t use the Claude model.
Nothing about running an extension prevents you from subscribing to cursor. You can absolutely subscribe to and it has nothing to do with running an extension in the software. It’s just a free extension that you sign in with your OpenAI account. I agree, cursor is wonderful and that’s why I’m talking about using it.
Windsurf can absolutely use Claude.
Windsurf was temporarily unavailable for Claude—this is me clarifying for Condor, not implying that Windsurf can’t use Claude right now.
