Grok Bot can't run local tools on my Mac: setting stuck on "Never" (this account only) / Grok Bot 无法在我的 Mac 上执行本地操作,设置一直被当成「从不」(仅此账号)

Hey everyone, thanks for the reports.

The “Local tools are turned off / Never” message is misleading here. You didn’t choose Never. There’s an issue on our side where, for some newer accounts, the Grok Bot app doesn’t finish linking your computer to your account. Until that link exists, the computer is treated as “Never” no matter what Settings says. That’s why restarting, reinstalling, re-toggling the setting and signing out and back in don’t help, and why no approval prompt shows up.

What has gotten people unstuck right away:

  1. Go to grok.com and sign in with the same account you use in Grok Bot.
  2. Open Settings from your account menu, then go to Privacy.
  3. Click Edit, choose the privacy option you want, and save (saving is what matters, even if you keep the same option).
  4. Wait about a minute, then ask the Bot to do something on your computer again. If it still refuses, quit Grok Bot completely and reopen it, then try once more.

For some people it has also cleared up on its own after about a day.

@baicai99, glad it’s working for you. Your tip about making sure Grok Bot, X and Cursor are all signed in to the same account is still worth checking for anyone who has more than one login.

This is a known issue we’re already tracking, and I’ve added this thread to it!
