Grok Bot: saving a new skill fails with "A name and a non-empty body are both required" even when both are given

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Grok Bot

Describe the Bug

On Oct 24, 2026 around 6:50 PM ET (UTC-4), my Grok Bot agent tried to save a new skill twice (name, description, and a full non-empty body all provided). Both attempts failed with: “Not saved: the skill could not be saved. A name and a non-empty body are both required.”

Steps to Reproduce

Ask the Grok Bot agent to save a new skill with a name, description, and a full non-empty body. Both attempts that evening failed with the error above (2 of 2).

Expected Behavior

The skill saves, since a name and body were both present.

Additional Information

Workaround: the agent wrote the skill file directly, and it works, so the content itself was valid. Frequency: 2 of 2 attempts that evening. Is this a known issue? A fix would be appreciated. Thanks!

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hi @AerethoS, this most likely happens because your skill library is full. All of your bots share one library of up to 100 skills, and once it’s at 100, saving a new skill fails with that name-and-body message even though both are there. It’s a known issue the team is aware of, and I’ve added your report to it.

To save new skills again:

  1. Ask your bot to list your saved skills and delete the ones you no longer use, until you’re below 100.
  2. Ask it to save the new skill again.

If you’d rather not delete anything, ask the bot to add the new instructions to an existing, related skill. Updating a skill that already exists still works.

Writing the skill file directly gets around the limit, but your bots may not see skills past the first 100, so it’s safer to get below the limit.
