Grok Bot weekly usage meter flips between 77% and 100% in real time

This is all over the news. Elon is throttling Grok Bot usage due to unstainably high costs, meaning if you’re at 50%, you could suddenly be maxed, not because you’ve used your usage, but because the compute costs too much and the network is overloaded. Which isn’t your fault.

Same issue here: annual Ultra, meter counting about 30% faster since Nov 1 (ticket T-J8801)

I’m seeing the same thing on my account.

My setup

  • Annual Cursor Ultra, paid up front on Aug 23, 2026 (about 10 weeks into the term)
  • Weekly reset is Sunday at 6:30 PM ET

What changed

6:29 PM

Week Tokens per 1% of weekly usage
Oct 26 to Nov 1 about 11.7M
Nov 2 onward about 8.5M

6:29 PM

That works out to about 30% less work per percent, starting Nov 1. My usage CSV exports show the change.

Impact
I’ve shut down my routines and halted my projects because my allowance no longer covers my normal work.

Support status
I filed ticket T-J8801 with [email protected] and asked for a human review. The AI agent said they don’t publish the weekly limits and that a team member will review it in a few days. I asked for one of three things: the previous rate restored for my annual term, a pro-rated refund, or the new limits in writing.

If you’re on an annual plan, it may help to file a ticket too and mention this thread.

I did receive a response from Sam about my open ticket today.

Hi Parag!

It’s possible you were running into an issue in our system that has now been fixed. Your weekly Grok Bot limit should be back to what it was before the issue.

We apologize for our lack of proactive communication. Usage limits are adjusted from time to time, and we’re committed to being better at letting our customers know ahead of time.

If Grok Bot still shows the weekly limit as reached, just reply here.

The above implies to me that they did intend to decrease the usage limit, but applied the change retroactively instead of proactively. Hopefully this decrease is just a temporary thing and they will increase it back in the future.

I haven’t created new bots or tasks in a few days and my usage went from 16% to 87% overnight so I’m about 5 conversations away from being locked out for the next 6 days. Cool

I just cancelled my Cursor subscription and I guess I’m spending my evening rebuilding this in Claude Duet.

I predicted this would happen, they lure us with a great product at a reasonable price and then I need to go from $34.99 a month to $349 a month to continue having a bot scan my email and update my calendar.

Yes, it’s fixed. I’m no longer locked out.

You’re referencing a different problem.

Yes, my usage was restored from 100% back to 57%. But I’ve been watching this extremely closely, and what we’re finding is pretty concerning.

I’ve been exporting my Cursor usage records and comparing actual token consumption against the percentage meter, including data from before the changes.

Here’s what my numbers show in raw tokens per 1% of usage:

  • Original basic Pro plan: 1.64 million

  • Higher-tier plan before November 1: 7–8.4 million

  • After November 1: 3.98 million

Based on my records, our effective usage appears to have been cut roughly in half. We’re still getting more than the original basic plan offered, but significantly less than what we were receiving.

These are raw-token comparisons, not cost-adjusted figures, so I can’t confirm the exact reduction. But I’ve been monitoring this closely, and something has definitely changed.

It feels like a rug pull, especially without any advance notice. I really feel for the customers who paid for annual memberships expecting a certain level of service.

I don’t necessarily blame them for needing to adjust usage due to operating costs. I blame them for how they handled it. Paying customers deserved transparency and advance notice, not waking up to suddenly exhausted allowances.
