This is about the xAI Grok Build terminal tool announced here:

(“Composer 2.5 is now available in Grok Build. Try it from the /models menu.”)

Related context (staff already noted Grok Build Composer is a separate xAI product):

After updating Grok CLI to the latest alpha, Composer 2.5 does not appear in grok models / the in-session models menu. I only get the grok-4.x family.

No Composer 2.5, composer-2.5, or grok-composer-2.5-fast.

Questions

  1. Is Composer 2.5 supposed to show for a grok.com login on CLI 1.0.42, or is it gated / rolled out separately?
  2. If I’m entitled, is this a catalog bug on the alpha CLI?
  3. What exact model id should appear (display name vs id)?

Happy to share account email / CLI debug logs privately if useful.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. grok update --alpha
  2. Restart Grok as prompted
  3. Run grok models (also checked /models / /model in-session)

Expected Behavior

Per Composer 2.5 | SpaceXAI, Composer 2.5 should appear in Grok Build’s /models menu (and in grok models).

Short version: this isn’t a Cursor issue or an alpha catalog bug. Grok Build’s model list is managed by the xAI team, and Composer 2.5 isn’t currently offered there. You’re seeing only the grok-4.x family, same as everyone, regardless of account or the 1.0.42 alpha. That x.ai launch post is from the original rollout. For Grok Build availability questions, xAI support is the best place to ask.

If you just want to keep using Composer 2.5, it’s still live in Cursor itself (the editor and the cursor-agent CLI) on your Ultra plan. See Cursor’s model list.
