I have a Grok bot generating an output I’d like to post to a Vibr group in my Vibr account. In the process to set this up, the bot attempts to open the Vibr QR code login page for me to scan and log in, but the QR code wont generate. Output from Grok is:
"I’ll open Viber again and see if the sign-in QR code loads this time.
Viber is opening now. The screen is still on Housecall Pro, and the QR code isn’t up yet.
Viber opened, but the QR code never loaded. It still says no connection, and a retry after a short wait didn’t change anything.
The app can reach the internet for ordinary sites, but the ports Viber needs for sign-in are blocked on this computer, so the code can’t be generated from here."
Even worse, the only workaround is to have the bot access Viber on my computer and that has been a disaster. While a bot may be able to work well from it’s own computer, it is about ENIAC level in it’s ability to do on-screen work. It can’t even find a search box.
"Official docs confirm Network Controls (port/destination limits) are Enterprise-only. Non-Enterprise defaults to allow-all, including non-443.
No announcements of a permanent block.
Workaround: Settings > Computer > enable Route egress through this desktop. Traffic then uses your local network/IP, which should let Viber reach its sign-in ports.
I have no visibility into changes and cannot escalate."
Asked Grok about it’s “workaround” not “working around.” It’s response:
“Sorry the workaround failed. Official docs limit Route egress to the computer’s web traffic via your desktop IP. Viber sign-in needs extra ports (5242/4244/5243/7985) that may fall outside that. Network Controls stay Enterprise-only with allow-all default for others; no permanent block announced. I have no visibility into changes and cannot escalate.”
Hey @NavyWings, thanks for sticking with this, and sorry for the trouble.
This isn’t fully resolved yet. Some computers can still only make standard HTTPS connections (port 443), which is why Viber’s sign-in can’t reach its servers and the QR code never loads. It’s not related to your account or your Viber setup, and the team is aware.
The “Route egress through this desktop” setting won’t help here, because it only routes the computer’s web traffic and Viber needs other ports. There’s no need to reset or reinstall anything.
