Hey Cursor team
I’ve been following a tutorial on how to set up MCP servers, and I noticed that the GUI dialog for adding MCP servers (with Name, Type, and Command) seems to be gone in the latest version. Instead, we’re asked to manually create a .cursor/mcp.json
file.
While I understand the benefits of config-as-code for advanced users or teams, the modal GUI was super helpful for onboarding, testing things out quickly, and following tutorials. Right now, it feels like a bit of a downgrade — especially when the docs and videos still reference the old UI.
Would you consider bringing that GUI option back (maybe as a toggle in settings)? Or at least adding a note in the UI to help new users understand how to manually create the file?
Thanks for all the great work — really love where Cursor is going overall!
