Hide output in chat until finished

Feature request for product/service

Cursor IDE

Describe the request

I think it would be good if we could opt in settings for hidding output text until the changes were done. My pc gets a little laggy when many outputs are being done by Cursor and I can’t even type new prompts meanwhile.

Operating System (if it applies)

Windows 10/11

Hey, thanks for the feature request. That’s an interesting idea to improve performance.

A few quick questions so we can understand the issue better:

  1. Which Cursor version are you on? (Help → About)
  2. Does this happen in Ask mode, Agent mode, or both?
  3. Which models are you using? (Long answers from Claude Opus can be heavier to render.)
  4. What are your system specs: RAM and CPU?

A few temporary workarounds that might help:

  • Try faster models with shorter outputs (GPT-4o mini, Claude Haiku)
  • Start a new chat instead of continuing a very long one
  • Close unused terminals in the chat if you have a lot of them

The team is aware of performance issues when rendering large amounts of output, and they’re working on optimizations.
