Hierarchical UI & Concurrency View for Multi-Agent Workflows in Agents Window

Feature request for product/service

Describe the request

Problem Statement
The current breadcrumb navigation (Parent > Subagent) treats agent interactions as a linear, single-threaded stack. When running workflows where a parent orchestrator delegates to parallel subagents with distinct roles/personalities, this model creates critical visibility friction:

  • Drilling into a subagent completely hides the parent orchestrator’s macro context.

  • There is no way to monitor parallel execution across multiple subagents simultaneously without constant back-and-forth breadcrumb switching.

Proposed UI/UX Solutions
To better support hierarchical and multi-agent mental models, consider the following layout enhancements:

  • Execution Tree View (DevTools/Trace Style): A persistent hierarchical sidebar (Parent Node ➔ Subagent A / Subagent B). Selecting a child node views its thought stream without displacing the overall tree or wiping out macro context.

  • Split-Pane Docking: Allow subagent runs to open as side-by-side split panels, letting users pin the orchestrator prompt on one side while watching worker output on the other.

  • Canvas / Node Graph Workspace: An optional spatial layout where the main parent agent sits centrally with floating subagent cards showing live status rings, streams, and inter-agent data flow.

Value Impact
As agentic workflows move from simple single-prompt completions to complex orchestrator-worker patterns, the UI needs to evolve from a chat keyhole into an agent command center. Improving multi-agent visibility makes steering, debugging, and managing agent workflows dramatically faster.

Operating System (if it applies)

Windows 10/11

Hey @Julian_Otto, thanks for the suggestion!

Some of this is already taking shape in Projects, where a coordinator agent manages workers: the Project row in the sidebar expands into a nested tree of its worker threads with live status, and you can Alt/Cmd-click (or middle-click) a worker to open it in a split pane next to the coordinator so both stay visible.

This feature is rolling out gradually to Enterprise teams.

@Colin Wow, awesome to hear!

I am looking forward to this once this will be rolled out to my company.
