[High-end PC] Cursor freezes every 10 seconds

Describe the Bug

Cursor freezes every 10 seconds, its not really usable at this point, I tried downgrading, but the app is super rapey and auto updates in the background which is odd they would even offer past versions if they dont allow the user to turn updates off, make that make since. Secondly, it almost seems like my machine is acting like a farm processor for something shady. If I have a very hignend machine and its this unstable, people on lower machines must be really chewing through their hardware.

Steps to Reproduce

open cursor, try something simple like typing

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Current Cursor Version (Menu → About Cursor → Copy)

OBVIOUSLY THE LATEST VERSION AS THE APP AUTO UPDATES WITHOUT PERMISSION

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Yes - Cursor is unusable

hi @mcwebdev and thank you for your bug report.

Sorry to hear about your issues with Cursor usage.

As this is not a common issue with a default installation we need further information to identify the cause.

  • Please check Help > Open Process Explorer and post here a screenshot. It would show what Extension or process part uses so much resources.
  • Do you have any processes running in terminal within Cursor?
  • Does this also occur on a new project? (would indicate large chat storage)
  • Does this occur when you run with extensions disabled? cursor --disable-extensions
  • Are you using Cursor in WSL?
