Home / No Repo chats: no per-chat Delete in Agents Window, and IDE History Delete is unavailable

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I have local agent chats started from Agents Window without selecting a repository. They appear under a workspace called Home (I did not create this workspace). Cursor staff/docs describe this as the “No Repo / This Mac” / empty-window context.

I want to permanently delete specific chats while keeping others. Current options do not work for my setup:

  1. Agents Window UI — context menu only offers Archive (no Delete).
  2. Archive — hides the chat but does not permanently remove it or free meaningful disk space.
  3. Editor Window → History → Delete — History is empty when I open the IDE with a normal project folder. The Home/No Repo chats do not appear there.
  4. Open Editor from Agents / New Window with no folder — still cannot access Delete for these chats.
  5. Developer: Delete Old Chats… — not acceptable for my workflow because it deletes by age threshold and would remove unrelated chats I want to keep across other workspaces/repos.
    On disk, transcripts exist under:
    ~/.cursor/projects/empty-window/agent-transcripts/<uuid>/
So the data is local and identifiable, but there is no supported UI to delete one specific Home/No Repo conversation.

Note: Cursor staff have pointed users to Editor Window → History → Delete for permanent deletion. That path works for repo-scoped chats but not for Home/No Repo sessions in my case: those chats never appear in IDE History, so the Delete option shown in IDE is not reachable for this workflow.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Agents Window.
  2. Start a new agent chat without selecting a repo (Home / No Repo context).
  3. Send messages and confirm the chat appears under Home when grouping by Workspaces.
  4. Try to permanently delete only that chat:
    • Agents sidebar → only Archive (no Delete)
    • Open Editor Window from this Home/No Repo chat (IDE opens empty, no folder selected) → History still does not list this chat with Delete
    • Cmd+Shift+P → no per-chat delete command for this session
  5. Observe there is no way to delete this one chat without bulk age-based deletion.

Expected Behavior

  • Per-chat Delete (with confirmation) in Agents Window, at least for Home/No Repo chats
  • Or Editor History should list Home/No Repo chats when opened from the same context so Delete works
  • Or a command like Agent: Delete Current Chat / delete selected chat by ID
  • Archive should remain optional, not the only cleanup path

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the detailed report and for calling out the Home / No Repo case separately.

You’re right. Chats started in the Agents Window without a repo live in a separate Home workspace empty-window, so they never show up in the Editor Window History. That also means Delete in History can’t reach them. This explains why History is empty even when you open a New Window without a folder.

Archive-only in the Agents Window is intended behavior, but I’ve passed the lack of a way to delete a single Home chat as feedback to the team. I can’t share an ETA.

For now, here are a couple workarounds:

  1. For chats you might want to delete later, start them in a folder instead of Home, for example an empty scratch folder. Those chats are tied to that folder’s workspace, so you can open the same folder in the Editor Window and delete them from History.
  2. For existing Home chats, there’s no per-chat delete yet. Archiving will hide them from the lists. If you specifically need to remove the local transcript copy, you can fully quit Cursor and delete the chat folder at ~/.cursor/projects/empty-window/agent-transcripts/<uuid>/. This only deletes the transcript file. The chat entry will still remain in Cursor until UI delete is added.

Let me know if the folder workaround doesn’t work in your setup.

Please add a permanent Delete option for individual archived chats in the Agents Window, including Home / No Repo chats.

Currently, I can archive a Home / No Repo chat, but I can’t permanently delete it from Cursor. Deleting its local transcript folder does not remove the archived chat entry from the app. Please provide a per-chat Delete action that removes both the transcript and its chat entry, with a clear confirmation.

Hey, thanks for following up here with the same request.

Yes, that’s correct: right now there isn’t a permanent per-chat Delete option for Home / No Repo chats in the Agents Window, only Archive. Deleting the transcript folder on disk only removes the local copy of the conversation. The chat entry itself still stays in the app, because it’s stored separately and not in that folder. So at the moment, there isn’t a way to fully remove a single Home chat through the UI.

This request for a per-chat Delete option that removes both the transcript and the chat entry, with a confirmation step, has already been passed to the team as feedback. I can’t share an ETA right now.

If you need a way to delete specific chats later, one workaround is to start them in a folder, for example an empty scratch folder, instead of in Home. Those chats are tied to that folder’s workspace, and you can open them in the Editor Window and delete them through History. For existing Home chats, the only option for now is Archive plus manually deleting the transcript folder, as described above.

I’ll reply in the thread if there’s an update.
