How can I disable Composer 2?

I don’t trust composer 2. its making crazy changes.

I have selected it to use opus 4.6 thinking nad its using composer 2 fast and composer 2 even though I have disabled it in settings.

How can I stop it from using composer 2 and only use opus 4.6?

@deanrie I am spending around $300 per month on cursor and I hate composer 2. It acts good but I don’t like it. How can I disable it and not use it?

Hey, there are likely two things going on here:

  1. The model picker resets to Composer 2 Fast

This is a known issue. When you open a new chat, the selected model can reset to Composer 2 Fast even if you picked another one or disabled it in settings. The team is aware. For now, the workaround is to manually check the selected model every time you start a new chat.

  1. Sub-agents use Composer 2 Fast in the background

Even when the main agent is running on Opus 4.6, the built-in sub-agents (Explore, Bash, Browser) use the fast model by default. This is expected. Sub-agents handle helper tasks and pass results back to the main agent. If you want sub-agents to use the selected model too:

More details on how this works are in this solved thread: Issues with Agent Mode switching to "Fast Mode" models

Also, can you share your Cursor version and a screenshot of the model picker? I want to confirm your settings are applying correctly.

I fully agree. It makes a lot of mistakes, gaps, and sometimes bad logic. I dont trust it.

I dont want Composer2/Kimi. I want 1.5 (slower, but a lot better)

I pay near $300 and after this composer 2 is released things are bad now.

Wow that’s a lot! I have basic subscriptions with Cursor, Claude and ChatGPT. I have to manage the use else I could easily blow up with top ups. The Cursor-Claude combo have been good. But now with Composer2, I am hesitating to use Cursor more with the gaps I’m experiencing. I spend a third of my time fixing the gaps. So I have now relegated Cursor to the most basic/elementary and small tasks only. I’m scared to use it to touch my whole project. If I have to let it touch a dozen files, I have to take time to review each. So I have slowed down my speed dramatically.

Since August, ive created several apps - most of it with the help of Cursor. Never been so excited. But with C2 now, not sure how I will move forward. So Im looking for options.
