How to Disable the new Markdown preview feature

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I installed the latest update and noticed the new Markdown behavior that lets you preview the rendered Markdown or edit the raw file.
I already use Obsidian for previewing, so I’d prefer to always open Markdown as the raw file in Cursor. At the moment, Cursor crashes when I open relatively large Markdown files (around ~5k lines), which means I can’t edit those files in Cursor and have to switch to another editor.

Is there a general setting to disable/enable the Markdown preview feature (or set a default to always open raw)?

Thanks

Steps to Reproduce

Open a large markdown file

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report. The team has already fixed the backend config.

Try this:

  1. Fully close Cursor and open it again. That should disable preview mode.
  2. If that doesn’t help, update to the latest version (Help > Check for Updates).

Workaround if it’s still not working: Ctrl+Shift+V switches to raw mode.

Let me know if it works after a restart. If the crash on large files keeps happening, please share the Request ID (chat menu > Copy Request ID).
