How to set Cursor to auto-approve markdown files?

There is a bug where cursor doesn’t generate the Accept button for markdown files intermittently and requires closing and reopening to get the Accept button to display.

As a work around, I want to auto-approve markdown files, but I can’t find a way to allow it.

Why is it I don’t have to approve most other files it edits (js, ts, tsx, etc), but markdown has some enforement to not allow auto editing?

do you not get the accept button in chat either? what if you open the md file and switch display from md to txt? im pretty sure you will find it there
as per your question, im pretty sure you cannot auto accept only a specific file type

I get the accept button on md files in chats most of the time, but Cursor has so many bugs, this being one I constantly battle with, that causes the accept button not to show. It doesn’t happen on every interaction, but it typically happens 1+ times a day.

Hey, thanks for the report.

About auto-approval for markdown files only, unfortunately there isn’t an option for that right now. You can enable auto mode for all files, but not for a specific file type.

For the main bug, the disappearing Accept button, this is a known issue and the team is already working on a fix.

Temporary workarounds:

  • Switch to viewing txt instead of md (as @liquefy suggested)
  • Restart Cursor when the button disappears
  • Try running Cursor without extensions: cursor --disable-extensions
