This issue has been mentioned in many topics, but it has not been resolved to this day (5-19). This is obviously a bug and is very annoying. I turned off auto-select, but after a few rounds of chat, cursor still automatically turned it on and wasted my query quota with models that I don’t want to use.
How do I find out that it has been secretly modified? Of course, it is when the automatically selected model is completely unable to solve the problem, and at this time, several queries have often been wasted.
Yeah, same boat here—this “Auto” toggle keeps flipping itself back on when I’m not looking and it’s driving me nuts.
Biggest pain: there’s zero way to tell which model Auto is about to fire up.
End result: I waste a chunk of my limited request quota plus a couple minutes waiting, then have to resend the whole thing after manually picking the model I wanted in the first place.
If you add that up over a session, manual selection is actually faster and cheaper for me. Auto is supposed to save clicks, but right now it costs me double.
Auto-select only makes sense if I can trust it, and trust starts with transparency. Just show the exact model name upfront—or better, let us set a preferred list that Auto can pick from. Until then I’m leaving Auto off (whenever it lets me).
