Import/Export User Rules

I regularly switch between my personal and corporate account, when working on pet and paid projects accordingly. Currently there is no way to automatically sync rules between users, so I have to do it manually which is quite annoying. It would be great to at list have an ability to export/import user rules to make life a bit easier.

Hey, which version of Cursor are you using? In the latest versions, the rules are stored in the cloud.

Yes, exactly. So the rules are bound to a single account I am currently signed in to, so when I switch the account rules from the previous account are changed to the rules from the current one. As an owner of two different active accounts (e.g. [email protected] and [email protected]), I would like to have the ability to smoothly copy/share rules between those accounts.

I’m encountering the same issue. Every time I upgrade, it clears my user rules. I want to know from which version they started being saved to the cloud, or for previous versions, where the user rules were stored locally. What are the locations for Windows and Mac respectively?

Hey, rules started saving to the cloud from version 0.50. Before this, they were stored in the database. You can find it at this path:

Windows: %APPDATA%\Cursor\User\globalStorage\state.vscdb
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/User/globalStorage/state.vscdb
Linux: ~/.config/Cursor/User/globalStorage/state.vscdb

Do you know if they are still there as well please, before I start hunting?

No, in the new versions they’re stored in the cloud.
