In what file on the filesystem are "Rules for AI" stored?

I’d like my global “Rules for AI” to be tracked in my dotfiles so they will sync across machines. I can’t for the life of me find them, even grepping across my entire home directory. Are they even stored client-side, or are they saved to your Cursor account server-side?

Hey, the AI rules file is stored in each individual project. There isn’t a global location for it.

Thanks for the response! I didn’t mean the .cursorrules, I meant the global setting that you write into the Cursor Settings:

I can’t seem to find where these are stored

They are stored inside Cursor, there’s no place where you can find them on your computer.

You can’t save global rules but can save global commands.

Global commands are saved in ~/.cursor/commands/

Commands are saved as .md files the name of the file, becomes the name of the command.

It can be found in the cursor (⌘ ⇧ J) menu
