I have been using open-remote-ssh extension to do remote SSH development with cursor because the recommended extension is buggy and doesn’t work.

This was working just fine, but suddenly after an update this extension seems to have disappeared. I’ve discovered that now when I install this extension (via VSIX file) it claims to be installed but if I close and reload cursor it is gone.

Likewise if I install it and then make a connection to my remote machine I can connect, but when I open a folder on the remote machine I get an error claiming I need the official extension and it fails.

[:counterclockwise_arrows_button: Explain how to reproduce the bug (if known)]
I take the .vsix file that I have downloaded and drop it into the extensions box. After doing this the extension shows up as shown with the screenshot. If I close cursor and reload it is gone per the screenshot.

It absolutely does.

[:laptop: Tell us your operating system and your Cursor version (e.g., Windows, 0.x.x).] Version: 0.49.6 (Universal)
VSCode Version: 1.96.2
OSX 15.4.1

Another thing I notice is that after I close cursor, the new entry in ~/.cursor/extensions/extensions.json gets removed upon reopening cursor.

We’ve removed the jeanp413.open-remote-ssh extension from the marketplace and replaced it with anysphere.remote-ssh (though this shouldn’t have uninstalled the original one). The new extension is maintained by the Anysphere team and has a superset of functionality of the original one. It does require v0.49+ of Cursor.

Could you try this one and share if you have any issues with it? You can find it by searching for @id:anysphere.remote-ssh in the extensions box – attaching a screenshot!
