Integrate ChatGPT Pro Subscription with Cursor

Professional dev here.

I used cursor for a while, and I like it.

However I am a power user and I pay $200 a month for chat gpt pro.
That means I have unlimited o1 and o1-mini use.
I understand o1 and o1pro are not available via api, and thats fine.
Primarily I use o1-mini for coding. 4o is simply insufficient at this point.

Cursor provides only 10 o1-mini uses a day and then goes to pay per token via the api. That is… very unfortunate considering I probably query o1-mini well over 100 times a day via the chatgpt interface, and I am already paying $200 a month for unlimited access. The chatgpt interface is obviously not very good, and I would much rather use cursor.

If there is a way to link my chatgpt-pro account to cursor so that I can use my unlimited o1-mini that I already pay for that would be very nice.

Thank you.

Hey, that’s not possible because Cursor doesn’t integrate with the ChatGPT interface, it works through the API. You can top up your API balance in OpenAI, connect your API key to Cursor, and use it. You control all the expenses yourself.

Yes I know that. I mentioned that cursor would need to go through the openai api after the first 10 calls to o1-mini.

The api would cost me like 3-15$ per day. But I already pay 200$ a month to openai for unlimited access, and then would be paying 20$ to cursor.

That would hit like 500$ a month. That’s insane.
As it is right now, nobody paying for gptpro would bother to use cursor.
But the people I know using gptpro, most of my professional dev friends, would love to use cursor.

Cursor has some popularity muscle it should flex here.
Could you guys reach out to openai about this?
I do not think it is as unreasonable as it sounds.

I can tweet to sama all I want and its just noise, but he would respond if cursor reached out.

I disagree with you there, many professional devs that I know including myself pay the $200 a month and also still use cursor lol, I use chatgpt to get info of how to approach things with a few files and some context written in markdown, then i port the info to cursor and use a model to apply it.

Sometimes, I even do need to pay more requests through the API key and can go over the $200 a month, truth about AI is that it will cost money and you just have to navigate around your budget.

Suggestion for you is to either learn to utilise the chatgpt for context and instructions, then apply to cursor or cancel chatgpt pro, add the money for api usage and for non complex questions, use gpt-4o or any other model, pretty much you’d be on the same boat
