I hope this post doesn’t end up in the void like they often do.
We all know Cursor has become very expensive depending on the region. The poorly executed marketing at the time, combined with the price changes, made the tool unfeasible for someone like me — someone who needs to use it intensively but doesn’t have much money to invest.
Cursor is good, but I’m not sure if, with the recent updates, the cost is really worth what we pay.
Is it still worth using Cursor?
I wouldn’t switch to anything else. This editor with AI in mind is exactly what I hoped for. And the team just keeps adding more.
From my point of view, as a seasoned dev who coded and engineered without AI for over a decade, it looks like other users are blowing all of their quota in a mere few days because they are trying to make the AI do all their work for them. Most of my Cursor usage initially was just “Tab accepts” and agent code review of my existing work. In fact, I originally subscribed to Cursor just for the Tab feature! In recent days, occasionally I blow my quota when I’m engineering a new thing from scratch with the new Agent features. But even once quota is hit, I can still effectively use it for free in Auto tier, forever until the billing period cycles.
Long story short: For my style of coding, where I’m the expert, and the AI is the assistant, I love Cursor, and would never look any other direction. If you treat it the other way around, where you are the assistant instead, Cursor may become too costly. Look around at the competing solutions.

This is exactly what Cursor is for and how I use it. The people who appear to be most dissatisfied seem to be trying to avoid having to code and wanting Cursor to just pump out whole projects. Cursor is much more versatile as an assistant with seasoned developers.

It’s worth it to me. It’s more expensive than it used to be with 500 $0.04 requests, but that’s understandable, as the AI on the back end is doing waaaaaay more work per request than it used to do back in the day when Cursor came up with the 500 request model. Pricing now is more transparent than it was last month, though it could still be improved imo. But overall it’s still worth it, as the work cursor does for me is way more valuable than the cost

They are charging for Auto soon, so either avoid Cursor or get an annual membership before 9/15 Update to Teams and Auto Pricing
