Isn't there any way to do nothing and just add content to the chat?

When I select something in the code editor and press ‘ctrl+l’, everything in the original chat disappears and a new chat starts. Isn’t there a way to just add that to the original chat? What I mean by that is, that it should work with a single hotkey. It should work this way and there’s no reason why it can’t

Cmd + Shift + L on Mac and, maybe, Ctrl + Shift + L in Windows.
