I see that the ‘composer’ and ‘chat’ are now merged. Cool.
BUT - Now when I try to move the Pane for Chat into my ‘Panel’ (where I prefer it), it does not work. It is just stuck in the secondary sidebar permanently.
Is this a bug or by design?
Either way, I’m not happy about it, I don’t want my Agent on the other side of the editor from my Explorer, as it makes dragging links from the Explorer into a new chat (something I do often) much, much more difficult.
Can you please restore the default positioning functionality for the Chat Pane?
I rolled back to the latest update available on the website (0.45.15), but the app is autoupdating itself back to this ‘broken’ beta one.
How do I pause these updates, please, until this latest version is fixed? (or at least until the changelog is published on the site?)
It was helpful having two separate histories and Panes for Chat and Composer, and to be able to customize their locations in the IDE - was this a decision driven by public demand? Seems like an odd one…and a step backward in UX/functionality.
Has an internal issue been created for this bug, please?
I keep having to re-install an older version after restarting my system, because the auto-updater which I cannot disable keeps updating me to this version with this broken UI functionality, which is a blocker for me.
I really love cursor, other than this one bug, and hope I don’t have to start shopping for another IDE again.
As mentioned in my comments, and the ones that are provided by other people here, this functionality is something that we use, and we don’t want to use the browser pop out, in my experience, it also has its own bugs, and also causes problems when opening files, because the focus is lost.
Nor do we want to have the AI panel opposite to the explorer, for the reasons previously expressed, as well as a customizable user experience, which was a huge value add in previous versions, being in alignment with the standard vscode functionality.
Putting the Chat pane into the panel or into the primary sidebar, is the functionality that we have grown accustomed to and would very much like that restored, please
This is important functionality for giving us the interface that we have grown to love in cursor, and want to preserve.
Hey, I believe this feature was removed as there was some reactivity issues that were caused by moving the Chat pane into the primary sidebar, and leaving the secondary / AI bar empty - this menu item seems like something we have not cleared up correctly!
I’ll pass this to the team to see if this is something we can re-add, albeit in a way that is more stable and maintainable in the future!
The way it worked before, when using the ‘editor view’, the history was still retained in the secondary Chat pane - maybe they fould do the same when it’s moved it into the Panel
Fingers crossed, it really helps the UX massively to be able to place it where we want, and I am eager to upgrade to the latest version, once this is fixed…
Seems like the team is rushing into deploying other features if they are sacrificing basic functionality to get the new stuff out the door. “Oh maybe they won’t notice this…” - well, we do!
This is also broken for moving Chat into the Panel, not just the primary sidebar. I made an account here because, like someone else in this thread, I keep both the Chat and Composer/Agent open and this has completely wrecked my setup.
@danperks Wondering if they’ve made any headway on this, please? I’m still holding off on updates as this feature is very important to my workflow. It appears I am not alone with this, as per other comments on the thread.
Hoping the Cursor team will support us in restoring “expected behaviour” to the IDE interface
While you can pop out the Chat into it’s own editor tab, and then hypothetically move it down, I think the chat input is stopping you from rearranging the panel to the bottom.
For context, the Chat input has its own drag and drop catcher, which is likely overriding the window management system.
I’ll report this to the team, but for now, you should be able to move the Chat to the bottom by first popping it out as an editor, then running the workbench.action.moveEditorToBelowGroup command.
@danperks, thanks for the update. Here is the video from the 0.46.11 update without the active chat input and with the running chat as a separate bottom editor window. It’s not even good as a temporary solution—even while the chat window is active, it opens tabs in the “chat row” instead of the “editor row,” which is super annoying. The only reliable solution for me is to switch back to 0.45 until this is fixed. Please keep us updated on this fix.
